Student Petitions

Under exceptional circumstances, a student may petition for a substitution to the KU Core. The petition is reviewed by the University Core Curriculum Committee during one of their bi-weekly meetings. Lack of knowledge of KU Core requirements, either on part of student and/or through misadvisement, is not an extraordinary circumstance for a petition to be considered.

The petition form must be submitted electronically.  You will be required to describe the exceptional circumstances of the course or experience petitioned.  Please gather the required information and attachments before completing the form.

Please allow approximately 1 month for your petition to be processed. The committee does not meet regularly during the summer or winter break. Petitions submitted during or close to this time may take longer to be reviewed. It is recommended that you enroll in a course or experience that fulfills the Core goal you are petitioning as a backup in case your petition is not approved.
