Corequisite Developmental Support
Starting Fall 2026: Corequisite Courses at KU
Students needing extra help in their Math Pathways course or English 101 will take an additional 2 credit-hour corequisite course. The corequisite courses provide:
- additional support for math and English course content
- assistance building academic skills such as studying, writing, time management, and stress management
- connections to campus, academic, and student support resources
Corequisite courses are taken at the same time as ENGL 101 or the math pathways class, which allows students to enroll directly into their math pathways or English course without completing a pre-requisite course.
Corequisites courses are being implemented at all public 2- or 4-year Kansas colleges and universities in fall 2026.
Who Completes Corequisites?
Enrollment in corequisite support courses will be determined by such placement measures as ACT scores, high school GPA, high school course grades, and placement tests. Based on these measures, some students will be required to complete corequisites. All freshmen may complete a corequisite if they would like additional support in English 101 or their math pathways course.
Details about placement measures are coming soon.
Pilot Program at KU
KU will pilot corequisite and math pathways courses in Fall 2025 with a select group of students. A full implementation will occur in Fall 2026 with all first-year students.

KU is finalizing the plan for corequisites and will share updates here as they become available.
